Construction Standards

In California, basic construction standards are established by the state, the county and the city. In addition, some construction standards such as those for energy conservation have federal guidelines.

Building industry standards allow for varying tolerances for different materials and their application. Minor cracks in concrete, masonry and stucco are unavoidable and considered normal due to expansion and contraction of rigid materials. Non-structural cracks in concrete, stucco, grout, wood, drywall, plaster and other materials are, in the same manner, considered normal due to shrinkage and settling of newly constructed materials.

Subject to the exclusions set forth in Section VI of the Limited Warranty document, an item is considered to be defective, and thus may be covered under the Limited Warranty, if it fails to meet the standards set forth in California Civil Code section 896, as further refined by the list of construction standards set forth in this section. Fieldstone uses these standards to help determine coverage under the Limited Warranty. Please review these items before you submit a Request for Service.

As noted at the beginning of the Warranty section, you should be aware that nothing in the Limited Warranty, or any other document provided in conjunction with the sale of your new home diminishes any rights or obligations that you or we may have under California Civil Code sections 895 through 945.5 (Copies of these statutory provisions have been provided with the purchase contract.) However, it is our goal and desire to address any warranty and construction defect issues though our normal customer service procedures, administered by Fieldstone Warranty Service Department.
